The early Bust Half Dollar series are a favorite of many collectors due to their early mintage, beautiful design and relative availability. The Draped Bust Half Dollar was first minted in 1796 and only lasted until 1807.

Very few of these early halves remain and they are highly desired by collectors. It is quite a challenge to complete the set and most collectors are quite happy to have a single example in their collection. Mintages were very low by todays standards and the minting process in the early days of our country was a slow and inexact science unlike the system used today. Coins were turned out on hand operated presses and as a result few coins were made and far less survived to this day.

For these coins to make it to the modern day in any grade the small mintages had to beat the odds of heavy wear in circulation, damage by mishandling, lost coins or buried hoards and melting. T he coin offered here is a survivor of these events and is well over 200 years old. Imagine that one of the founders of our country may have used this coin in everyday commerce! Here is a chance to own a great American collectible and to hold a piece of U. S history in your hands! This particular example is an 1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar in EF Extremely Fine Condition! There are 6 major varieties of the 1806 and this coin is a Pointed 6 with No Stem variety and has been attributed as the Overton O-109. This coin is a beauty with great eye appeal. It is nicely struck with full denticels remaining on the rims and a sharp Date, Lettering and Stars. Most of the hair details remain and nearly all of the Eagles feather details can be clearly seen. It has a nice silvery color with some Orange and Electric Blue near the rim on the obverse and more Orange coloration on the reverse. There are a couple of marks to be noted for accuracy with one on the Eagles head and another on the horizontal lines of the shield. Early Bust Halves were my favorite series to collect over the years and for good reason. These coins are over 200 years old and are scarce in any condition. It would make a great addition to any high grade Bust Half collection or a fantastic Type coin for this tough series.

The coin pictured is the one you will receive. Any description or grade given by me is my opinion based on over 50 years of coin collecting. I recently retired and now is the time for me to part with my coin collection, some of which I have owned for decades.

I try to give you clear pictures from multiple angles along with an honest description of the coin you will receive. I will be listing many more in the months to come, so please add me to your favorite sellers list. My goal is to make you a happy customer so you will be back to add another quality piece to your collection. So give me a shot, I promise you will not be disappointed!
