An 1807 Draped Bust Half Dollar certified VG10 by PCGS. Looks far nicer in hand under almost every lighting and angled view, and has a more silvery look overall except under full light, when a light golden/ochre tone dominates.

The darker rim tone is also not nearly as visible -- in fact, it's practically not visible at all under most lighting -- than it is in some of the photos. The hairlines that are visible in many of the photos are virtually undetectable in hand, except at the most extreme angle under close and full light. Overall, this is a beautiful coin with outstanding eye appeal for the grade.

It actually has the look of a bit higher grade -- an F12 or 15, perhaps -- given all the detail and problem-free surfaces. This coin also features a much bolder strike than the typical Draped Bust Half, which is notorious for having a generally weak strike. While there's obviously quite a bit of wear, it is uniform throughout, and leaves a lot of exquisite detail, including Liberty's hair and profile outlines, all lettering, the date, and the stars and the heraldic eagle design on the reverse. This is the final year of the Draped Bust Half Dollar design, which was minted for just seven years, from 1801 to 1807.

It is the first 50-cent piece to use the heraldic eagle design on the reverse -- the previous half dollar, the 1796-97 Draped Bust, had the "small eagle" design resembling, some say, more of a "skinny turkey" than the national bird. And don't forget to check out my other listings when you have a moment. Thank you for your continued support of Shenandoah. However, coins must then be re-secured in a new cardboard flip or mylar holder for the return trip. Don't like your item? Run it through the wash? OK, that would be a problem. But almost anything else that's right, no problem. Thank you for reading and for looking at our items.
